Rabbit Manure

Picture
Our rabbits are FERTILIZING MACHINES! These dry, odorless pellets – are what make our gardens “hop” during the summer!

Because it is a “cold” manure it can be applied directly to plants as a top dressing without the risk of burning them. If you have visited Song Away Farm you know the cucumber bed is adjacent to the barn. On those hot summer days when we don’t feel like wheelbarrowing the poo to the compost pile it goes right into the cuke garden. And that is why we can make about 150 pints of dill pickles from an 8’ x8’ garden box!

Rabbit manure is one of the highest in Nitrogen (essential for leaf growth & photosynthesis); Phosphorus  (which aids in the overall development of the plant roots and flowers); and Potash (which is what makes the plants healthier overall) is on par with cow manure.

Our manure is a mixture of rabbit manure, pine shavings and hay, with some leaves added each fall. We have been generating this pile (pictured) since last fall and it can be used as a base layer in a vegetable or flower garden, or as a nutrient-rich mulch to augment your existing soil.
